Liz Carr sparks hilarity on Saturday Kitchen Live with crude courgette isolation quip

Today's Saturday Kitchen Live could have been disastrous, thanks to the social distancing guidelines laid out by government.

But luckily, actress Liz Carr was on hand to keep everyone entertained, thanks to her kitchen cupboard essentials.

The Silent Witness star had the entire studio howling with host Matt Trebbutt robbed of the ability to speak as she revealed what ingredients she had in her kitchen... including a rather large courgette.

Wearing a patterned fluffy dressing gown and marigold gloves, Liz - who is self-isolating at home - explained over the video link what she kept in her cupboards.

"It's all been washed down," she reassured the other guests while holding up her kitchen staples.

"So for comfort food is my can of beans and sausage. And a courgette."

"Why's that? You like courgettes?" asked Matt innocently.

Waving the vegetable at the camera, Liz smirked: "Well it's just for comedy purposes, it's just rude.

"A girl's got to entertain herself in lockdown. That's what I'm saying.

Covering his face with his hand, Matt lost it as wine expert Helen McGinn shook with laughter over the second video link.

Recovering just in time to continue with the live broadcast, Matt managed to squeak out: "SO! I can show you how to use the puff pastry and the cheese..."

Liz maintained a perfectly straight face throughout her rude quip (BBC)

It wasn't the only on-air blip of the show, as Matt also faced jokey criticism for the pasta dish he'd made for the studio guests.

It seems his sauce hadn't gone well in rehearsal, and Matt fumed as the other chef and crew ribbed him over the cooking fail.

Luckily he had a sieve on hand to strain the sauce of inedible lumps during the live feed.
