Livingston Women’s vice-captain Fiona Boslem has challenged the side to show last year’s positive start was no fluke.
The Lionesses were sitting atop the Championship South table a month into their inaugural season when the Covid-19 pandemic hit and forced the league to be shut down.
Now, nearly 18 months later, they’re back at it again as they kick-off the season on Sunday at home to Edinburgh Caledonia.
With largely the same side in place, the defender believes they have what it takes to mount a title challenge but is well aware of the challenge facing them in a competitive league.
Speaking to the Courier, she said: “We’re all really excited to finally be at this stage. We’ve waited so long to get to this point and to know, hopefully, that everything is going to count and we’ll get a full season is brilliant.
“We were playing well last time when the league got stopped. We were playing good football and really buzzing with the start of the season we’d had.
“It was a shame for it all to not count because we’d hoped the league would carry on from when it stopped but obviously that wasn’t the case.
“We’re largely the same team but there’s a couple of new players. We were doing well before the stop so we know we can do it again.”
She added: “It’s going to be a really competitive league. There’s plenty of good teams and we know we can’t take anyone lightly. It’s a difficult league but we have confidence in the group and the aim is to get promoted.
“We just have to worry about ourselves and play the way we can. That’s really our focus heading into the game.”
