Livingston Women's defender Ali Strike hails team performance in Championship South win over BSC Glasgow

Livingston Women’s defender Ali Strike admits she has no idea why she was far enough up the park to score twice on Sunday.

But she insists it’s a sign that the Lionesses are heading in the right direction as their 7-0 win over BSC Glasgow helped keep them in touch with top spot in the Championship South table.

It’s now three wins on the bounce for Paul Jaconelli’s side, who sit in fourth place but just two points behind leaders Edinburgh City after 10 games.

Strike’s double was matched by skipper Vicky Wood with Rachel Walkingshaw, Shannon Mulligan and Jen Dodds all getting on the scoresheet as well for the comfortable win.

Speaking to the Courier, Strike said: “It was a really top performance and I think one that the players and coaching staff have been looking for.

“We’d played really well in the last two wins and bounced back from the cup defeat but I think this performance was exactly what was being demanded of us and what we wanted to show.

“I was playing left of a back three so I don’t really quite know what I was doing that far up the park to get the goals but it shows the confidence that’s flowing through the team right now.

“Everyone is playing their part and everyone is wanting the ball. We’re playing our style and it’s really enjoyable.

“I think we’ve ironed out a few of the inconsistencies and issues we had earlier in the season and we’re on a roll right now.”

She added: “The first goal was a free-kick that’s deflected into my path and it’s honestly just a toe bash but they all count.

“The second one I’ve taken a chance at the back post and got on the end of it. The attacking nature of the players around you and that desire to get up the park has an impact because you just feed off that.”

It’s a week off now for Livi before they host Falkirk and face a trip to Morton before the winter break and Strike is keen to make sure they continue their good form before the two month interval to the season.

She said: “It’s really unfortunate that we’ve got a week off now because we’re all desperate to play. There’s a real buzz about the place right now.

“We’ve got two games before the split and the aim needs to be taking six points. The league is incredibly tight at the top and we can’t afford to slip up so we need to put in professional displays like we did against BSC and we’re confident we can pick up the two wins if we do that and then kick on again in January.”
