Livingston Women’s boss Paul Jaconelli hailed his side’s desire after they bounced back from last week’s defeat to Gartcairn by knocking the same team out of the SWF Championship Cup on Sunday.
The Lionesses netted the only goal of the game on 76 minutes as Jess Murphy headed home an Alexandra Strike corner and the boss was full of praise for their reaction from the loss last week.
He said: “It wasn’t the most free-flowing and flamboyant game but we matched them all over the park for desire and work-rate.
“I think there was an element of shock from the defeat last week and it showed the girls that they need to be at it for the whole 90 minutes.
“They bounced back really well and it was a good reaction. It was very pleasing to see and the players all came off the park at the end pleased with their own performances.”
He added: “We should probably have scored more if we’re being honest and that is something we need to work on but ultimately all that matters is winning the game.”
Livi’s reward for their first round win is a visit to St Mirren in a fortnight’s time - a side they face in Paisley in league action on Sunday with Jaconelli targeting all three points.
He commented: “It’s obviously nice to win cup games and go on a wee run but ultimately the aim for this football club is to win the league.
“St Mirren will be a really tough game for us but we need to pick up the three points after we lost to Gartcairn.
“We need to make up that ground on the teams that are above us. We bounced back really well in the cup on Sunday so we go into the game full of confidence.”
