Livingston winger Alan Forrest aiming to keep League Cup trophy in the family

There will be a new name on the League Cup trophy this year - but Livingston winger Alan Forrest is hoping it stays in the family.

Alan's brother James has lifted the cup on the last four occasions with Celtic but both they and Rangers have been knocked-out. And that means it'll have to be the younger brother hoisting the trophy aloft in February if the Forrest clan want to make it five on the bounce.

The Livi winger netted his seventh goal of the competition on Wednesday night to help his side claim a first semi-final berth since 2006 and he doesn't want the run to end there.

He said: "James has won it four in a row and then they’re out, as are Rangers.

"It’s still a competitive tournament. We know there’s no easy game but we’ve all got to believe that we can go all the way."

Livi had booked their semi-final date before the action in Paisley had ended and they were in the middle of their warm down when news filtered through that St Mirren had taken the lead against Rangers.

Cue the players running back inside to watch the final moments and the draw that followed.

He added: "The boys were in there watching the last five minutes and we saw Rangers equalise.

"We thought they would go on and win - but we couldn’t believe it when St Mirren scored the winner.

"It was a shock. But it’s got to be good for us. It’s anyone’s competition now."
