Livingston vs Aberdeen OFF as plastic pitch fails to thaw in time for Premiership clash

Today's Premiership clash between Livingston and Aberdeen has been called off due to the plastic pitch not thawing in time.

An inspection was carried out at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Wednesday at 2pm by match officials but parts of the surface that lie in the shade remain frozen.

Officials worked hard on Tuesday night to clear snow from the surface but the pitch has been deemed unsafe for the game to take place.

There was hope from the Livingston side that the fixture would go ahead but hopes were dashed ahead of kick-off in West Lothian.

The call-off will be a concern to SPFL chiefs who are already in a sweat over potential games being backlogged amid the Covid pandemic.

Aberdeen already have a rearranged clash with Celtic to fulfil and the latest call-off means both teams won't play again before 2021.

Derek McInnes' side host Dundee United on Sunday while Livi travel to Easter Road to take on Hibs on the same afternoon.
