Livingston suffer fan restriction blow as First Minister announces no changes

Fan restriction limits are likely to remain in place until Livingston’s return to action from the winter break.

That’s after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said she anticipates no relaxation of the current measures before January 17.

Livingston are due to return from their break the following day with a home clash against Dundee.

The rules, which were imposed just before Christmas, limit attendances at sporting stadiums to 500.

Following that announcement, the SPFL clubs voted to bring forward their annual winter break from January 2 in the hope that fans would be able to return in higher numbers once the action gets back underway.

While the top flight clubs chose to shut down, lower leagues continued with many unaffected by the 500 limit.

The New Year’s Day clash at Volunteer Park between Armadale Thistle and Bathgate Thistle attracted 380 spectators.

And the First Minister announced an extra £5m additional funding for sport in Scotland, though it remains to be seen how that will be spent.

The First Minister commented: “While we are not proposing any additional measures at this stage, I will confirm that existing protections and guidance will remain in place for the coming week, pending further review.”

She added: “I can confirm that the restrictions on large gatherings, the requirement for distancing between groups in public indoor places and for table service in hospitality venues serving alcohol on the premises will remain in force for now and, I expect, until 17 January.”
