Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes geared up for 'massive' St Johnstone clash

Livingston take on St Johnstone on Saturday in buoyant mood after almost putting the Celtic to the sword for a second time this season, writes Kieran Polland.

And striker Lyndon Dykes admits it's a 'massive' game for the club.

The Lions travel to McDiarmid Park brimming with confidence despite conceding a heartbreaking late equaliser against the Hoops on Wednesday night, but the point obtained keeps them on track for a top six place and continues to raise hopes that claiming a European place is still up for grabs.

The Aussie striker said: "It’s a massive game. We’re going to put this one behind us, get back to work, get back to training and hopefully pick up three points on Saturday.”

Dykes, who once again received praise for his performance up against Celtic’s £7m defender Christopher Jullien, insists that Livi can play football with the best of them without resorting solely to a physical style.

He added: "It’s the first thing that comes to people’s minds. They’re physical this, they’re physical that. We do what we do, but in the opposition’s half I do think we play nice football.

“Obviously it was hard on Wednesday, Celtic attack so much. They’ve got great players all round and we were defending a lot."

The performance against Neil Lennon's side came under the watchful eyes of the Australian national team's assistant coach, Rene Meulensteen, and the striker admitted receiving an international call-up would be a great achievement.

He stopped short, though, of pledging his allegiance to the Aussies over a potential Scotland call-up with the ex-Queen of the South striker saying: "It would be a dream to play internationally for any footballer. It’s one of those things that it has to come to the table.

“I am in the dark about it. I’ve just got to see what happens. Whoever wants to come and speak to me then I am open to speaking to them both and see what happens.

“But I am only thinking about a top six finish for Livingston and anything above that is a bonus.”
