Livingston stars rally behind Daniel Barden with Movember show of support after keeper's cancer diagnosis

Big-hearted Livingston stars will rally behind goalkeeper Daniel Barden by growing moustaches for Movember after the on-loan shotstopper was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

The Norwich City keeper has taken a break from the game after being given the shock news but insists he is keeping a positive mindset and is confident he will return to top level action.

Lions boss David Martindale praised the 20-year-old Welshman’s resilience in the wake of his diagnosis.

Now Barden’s colleagues at Almondvale will show their support to the Welshman by growing mousers for the month of November - with funds going towards supporting work in mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Livi skipper Nicky Devlin said: “In light of the news last week about Dan’s horrific situation, the team wanted to do something to show our support and let him know that everyone was fully behind him.

“The Movember campaign is fantastic as it raises awareness for extremely important health issues that many men may face.

“We felt now more than ever, it was an appropriate time to use our platform to help raise awareness and money for these causes.

“Hopefully we can do just that and help raise some money, but more importantly help raise awareness, especially for testicular cancer.

“From everyone at Livingston Football Club, please take the time to learn about Movember and thank you in advance for your support.”

Livi boss Martindale added: "I think it’s imperative that we use Daniel's experience to send a message to everyone out their to regularly check themselves.

"Dan’s a young healthy athlete who has found himself with testicular cancer. It’s does not discriminate on whom it infects, please check yourself regular.

"The staff and players are trying to use Dan’s negative experience as a way to raise money and awareness in the fight against this horrible disease.

"So please donate anything you can and feel free to follow the lads progress on various social media channels over the coming month.

"It's a fantastic gesture by everyone at the club and hopefully between us all we can raise some much needed funds."

Livi have set up a JustGiving page to raise funds here
