Livingston star Scott Pittman hailed as 'our Frank Lampard' by David Martindale after return from injury

Livingston manager David Martindale has hailed returning star Scott Pittman as ‘our Frank Lampard’ after the midfielder marked his return from injury with a goal in last weekend’s win over St Johnstone.

The 29-year-old had featured just once since August after suffering bone bruising but returned for the victory in Perth.

And Martindale said it’s no coincidence the Lions produced a terrific performance with the local lad back in the team.

Speaking to the Courier, he said: “It was massive having someone like Scott Pittman available on Saturday, from me as a coaching point of view.

“He goes out there and does it. He knows everything that is expected of him and he delivers it on the park.

“It’s like Jose Mourinho’s quotes on Frank Lampard when he said that if Lampard had a good game he was the best player, but if he didn’t play at his best he was the third or fourth best player.

“That’s like Scott Pittman for me. He’s similar to that and is kind of our Frank Lampard in that sense.

“When he has a good game, he’s fantastic, but when he just has a normal game, he’s still one of the better players.”

He added: “Having someone like that was crucial for us and I’m delighted he got his goal.”
