Livingston speed skater Elise Christie looks set to miss Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics

Elise Christie says her ‘heart is shattered’ as she looks set to miss out on the Winter Olympics.

The 31-year-old Livingston-born short-track speed skater has been fighting an ankle injury all season and was behind Kathryn Thomson in the World Cup qualifying events.

Only one GB skater is expected to be awarded a place in Beijing.

Christie is a three-time world champion as well as 10-time world championship medalist and 10-time European champion, however she has suffered huge disappointment in previous Winter Olympics.

She was disqualified in all three events in 2014 and a further two in 2018, and has previously hinted that she would retire after the Beijing Olympics.

In a tweet, she said: “The ankle injury I sustained set me back too far. My heart is shattered.

“So much love to all my supporters and fans. I’ll be back soon. X”
