Livingston sign former French youth international from Grasshopper Zurich

Livingston have announced the signing of former France under-16 international Djibril Diani on loan from Swiss second tier Grasshopper Zurich.

The Lions have an option to buy the 22-year-old at the end of the season. The deal is subject to the defensive midfielder receiving a work permit and international clearance.

He becomes the fourth player to sign for the club during the winter transfer window.

Strikers Gavin Reilly and Jaze Kabia, along with full-back Jackson Longridge, all put pen to paper for the Lions.

Livi boss David Martindale hailed the signing, saying: "I’m delighted to have the opportunity to work with Djibril. I have watched countless hours of footage of the player who comes highly recommended via an agent friend in Switzerland who I have a lot of time for and value his opinion.

“Djibril has 7 caps for France at under 16 level and has top flight experience in the Super League in Switzerland. He has played enough football to convince me that he can really push for a place in our starting team on a consistent basis."

He added: "He is an athlete who looks after the ball very well, has a great left foot and can play in numerous positions. He is mobile, has a turn of pace and likes a tackle. He has a great range of passing and that’s one of the main assets that caught my eye initially.

“Djibril comes in on a 6-month loan deal and we have an option to purchase in the summer.

“We are still awaiting international clearance and we will need a work permit for the player before he can play football with us. I’m confident we can get this as the player will add value to our first-team and we have a track record of bringing players from the foreign market who go on to play regularly for the club.

“Financially the foreign market must be one of the main markets that we scout as I feel it gives good value for money in terms of financial output off set with the ability levels of the player scouted.”
