Livingston set to sign former Scotland midfielder Andrew Shinnie

Livingston are set to complete the signing of former Scotland international Andrew Shinnie.

The Daily Record reported yesterday that the 32-year-old will sign a two-year deal and is expected to be unveiled later today.

The playmaker is a free agent after being released by English League One side Charlton Athletic in the summer.

Shinnie, whose sole Scotland cap came in 2012 during his time at Inverness, is understood to have had offers on both sides of the border but ultimately elected for a return to Scotland and is expected to play a key role in Livi gaffer David Martindale's bid for a third consecutive top six finish.

The former Rangers youngster kick-started his career in Inverness with his performances earning him a move to Birmingham City in 2013. Loan spells at Rotherham United, Hibs and Luton Town followed before signing permanently with the latter ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

He made over 100 appearances for the Hatters and sealed promotion to the Championship in his first season before a move to Charlton last summer.

Martindale is also hoping to bring in another versatile defender who can predominantly feature in the heart of the back four.
