Livingston scouting Europe to find hidden gems ahead of second season in the Premiership

Livingston are searching far and wide in their bid to unearth gems ahead of their second season in the top flight.

With the Lions unlikely to be able to compete financially with the rest of the Scottish Premiership, they are understood to be looking at players in the French lower leagues as well as top divisions across Europe, including Poland, Belgium and Greece.

The club signed midfielder Steve Lawson from Swiss second tier outfit Neuchatel Xamax in August and Gary Holt is believed to be keen to replicate that success for next season.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Liam Kelly has been offered a new deal with the Lions - and the club are understood to be hopeful that the stopper will put pen to paper ahead of next season.

The 23-year-old is understood to have a £50,000 buy-out clause in his current deal which has alerted a host of clubs, including Celtic and Hamburg, but Livi have offered improved financial terms and are confident the lure of first team football will be enough to keep him in West Lothian.

Kelly’s string of impressive displays in his maiden top flight campaign led to him being called into the Scotland squad for their Euro 2020 qualifiers away at Kazakhstan and San Marino.

Courier Sport understands that midfielder Shaun Byrne is amongst those who have been offered a new deal. Also entering the final year of his contract, the midfielder has been a key member of the club’s revival.
