Livingston's home clash with Hibs called off due to covid issues at Edinburgh club

Livingston's home Premiership clash with Hibs scheduled for Saturday has been postponed due to a number of positive covid cases at the Edinburgh club.

Hibs saw last weekend’s away clash at Ross County called off at short notice after a number of positive covid tests with the SPFL ruling that their rearranged fixture against the Staggies, which was due to take place tonight, as well as their trip to Livingston, are not able to be played as they don't have enough players.

An SPFL spokesperson said: “After reviewing the information provided by Hibernian, their cinch Premiership matches against Ross County and Livingston this week have been postponed.

“New dates for both games will be announced as soon as possible.”

Speaking prior to the SPFL announcement, Livingston boss David Martindale told the Courier that it highlights the fact the virus is still here.

He said: "I can sympathise with Jack Ross and it’s obviously not an ideal situation but it just highlights to everyone that the virus is still there and it’s still impacting society.

“I think a lot of people are just kind of going through life just now almost forgetting that it’s still with us. As much as we all want to get on with our lives and get back to normal, we all need to try and stay safe.”

He added: “I’ve actually had to check if it was still mandatory to wear face masks in shops recently because I’m seeing more and more people not doing it – but it is. As society, we just need to make sure that we’re all doing the right things at the right times.”

A statement from Livingston FC wished those affected by the virus at Hibs a speedy recovery and advised anyone who has already bought a ticket to keep hold of it for the time being until further information is released regarding the rescheduled fixture.

It said: “As has been documented this week, the Edinburgh side have been affected with a number of positive COVID-19 cases and, as such, have contacted the SPFL to make them aware that they don’t have the relevant player quota to fulfil Saturday’s fixture and subsequently, the game has now been postponed.

“Of course, we wish those affected a speedy recovery from the virus.

“As yet, no new date for the game has been confirmed but we’ll let you know as soon as we have official word from the SPFL.

“For anyone who has purchased a match ticket for this game, please keep a hold of this for the time being and we’ll have a further announcement with ticket details once the new date has been announced.

“Likewise, for our hospitality guests, we’ll be in touch to discuss the available options too.”
