Livingston penalty hero Matija Sarkic keeps up perfect shoot-out record with victory over Falkirk

Livingston penalty hero Matija Sarkic revealed he kept up his perfect shoot-out record as he made two saves to help the Lions pick up a bonus point against Falkirk in their Betfred Cup opener.

The Montenegrin could perhaps have done better for Falkirk's 90th minute equaliser when he parried the ball into the path of Conor Sammon but he didn't take that disappointment into the shoot-out as he produced saves from Michael Tidser and Lewis Toshney as the Lions won 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

The 21-year-old, who is on a season-long loan from Aston Villa, said: "I don't want to jinx it now but I've never lost a penalty shoot-out in my career from Academy football up until now so hopefully I can keep that going. I'm very happy to have saved the penalties.

"It's down to homework and the backroom staff putting the work in. We try to analyse as much as possible but at the end of the day it's about reading the player as well."

It was certainly a debut to remember for the loanee and, while Livi only grabbed a draw against League One opposition, the keeper says he's happy to be playing north of the border and is sure the team will only get better.

He said: "There's massive teams in the Scottish Premiership and I'm hoping to help Livingston continue on the incredible seasons they've had recently. I'm really happy to be at the club and the lads are great, it's a really nice bunch of lads and we're all going to work hard and do as well as we can this season.

"There's a few new faces in the team and it's about getting to know each other but we're settling in nicely and I think we'll get much better from now going forward."
