Livingston midfielder Jason Holt admits Lions made it too easy for Hearts in defeat

Livingston midfielder Jason Holt admits the Lions made it easy for Hearts after the Jambos eased to a 3-0 victory at Tynecastle.

First half goals from Michael Smith and Liam Boyce, from the spot, were added to by Alex Cochrane midway through the second half as the hosts kept up their unbeaten start to their Premiership campaign in fine fashion.

And, despite it being Livi's third game in seven days, Holt refused to use weariness as an excuse and said the Lions didn't do all the things that have made them difficult to play against in recent seasons.

He said: "We wanted to be competitive and we were the opposite. We never pressed high up the park and we made it really easy for them, particularly in the first half.

“We had a game in midweek and they had a good week’s training but you can’t use that as an excuse. You still need to be more competitive and energetic than we were.

“All over the park we were just lacking. That wee edge you need to have in games just wasn’t there. We want to be competitive in every game we play and we lacked that.

“You usually associate our performances with a competitive edge, high pressure on the ball, but it wasn’t there.”

He added: "Every year it’s extremely tough and we’ve had to play a lot of the teams who finished higher up last season. But we still wanted a better points return.

“We got a point at Dundee and beat Celtic but we were looking for something extra on Saturday – it wasn’t there.

“Hearts played well but we made it a wee bit easier for them. We were lacking. Hearts scored some good goals but we could have defended them better.

“We have another tough game coming next week against St Mirren. It’s a game you look at and say you really want to win it. We need to recover well.”
