Livingston boss David Martindale says Max Stryjek’s expected move to English League One side Wycombe Wanderers is one that ‘suits all parties’.
The 26-year-old Polish keeper looks to have called time on his Lions career after two full seasons and 71 appearances for the club with his former gaffer admitting it was the right time to depart.
Signed from Eastleigh in 2020, the keeper was involved in a season-long battle for the starting role with Robby McCrorie during his first campaign before getting the nod last term.
Despite a string of impressive displays, the former Sunderland man was error-prone, something which ultimately led to the Lions signing Shamal George last month.
Livi won’t receive an upfront fee should the deal be finalised but there are future fees based on appearances for the club and promotion while the Lions retain a sell-on clause.
Speaking to the Courier, Martindale said: “There’s no fee as such but it’s a performance-related transfer. The big thing for me is the sell-on because I do think Max has huge potential.
“We’ll get fees based on games played and if Wycombe get promoted. It’s a good club and it’s a move that suits all parties.
“They’re looking for a keeper with experience and I do think there’s a very good chance they can get promoted during his contract. The ball’s really in Max’s court now.”
He added: “Gareth Ainsworth (Wycombe boss) phoned me on Monday. I actually know him from playing against him for Scotland Seniors against England Seniors and we had a chat.
“It was a really easy negotiation. I got an email at 7pm on Monday, I said it wasn’t really what we were looking for and five minutes later we had a deal concluded so I have to say a massive thanks to Wycombe and Max’s agent for being easy to deal with.
“I think Max has been caught thinking he’d get a move away in the summer then not getting it. He’s maybe taken his eye off the ball a wee bit in the meantime.
“We’ve hit that juncture in our careers with each other that it’s time to move on. I’m a wee bit despondent that we didn’t get a fee upfront for him given there was interest last year.
“But the keeper market is a tough place right now, there’s some very good keepers – such as Zander Clark – without a club so we’re lucky to get a deal that I believe benefits all parties.”
The Courier understands that the Lions will sign a replacement for Stryjek prior to Saturday's Premiership clash at Motherwell.
