Livingston finish Premiership season in sixth place following dull draw against St Johnstone

Livingston ended the Premiership campaign in sixth place after claiming a final day 0-0 draw in a drab affair at St Johnstone.

The Lions went into the match knowing a win over the Saints would see them jump above their opponents into fifth place - and keep alive hopes of potentially qualifying for European football.

However, both teams failed to produce in a game of few chances. The draw did take Livi's total to 45 points on the season - their second highest ever in the top flight.

Livingston boss had to make do without Nicky Devlin and Craig Sibbald, both of whom failed late fitness tests. That meant a rare start at right-back for Jack McMillan, while young Irish winger Jaze Kabia made his first start for the club.

An uneventful start didn't produce its first effort on goal until the 23rd minute when a St Johnstone corner-kick eventually fell into the path of Stevie May. With his back to goal, the striker could only produce a tame hooked effort straight at Max Stryjek.

At the other end, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas produced Livi's first attempt a few minutes later. The former Arsenal man showed nifty footwork on the edge of the box to buy himself some space, but saw his angled drive tipped wide by Zdenek Zlamal.

The first half may well have been dull, but the second was even worse as neither side was able to string together a decent attacking move.

It looked increasingly likely that any goal would have to come from an error and so it almost proved 18 minutes from time. Kabia nicked the ball off Shaun Rooney inside the Saints box but saw his effort saved by the legs of Zlamal. The Irishman was bundled over in attempting to pounce on the rebound but Livi's calls for a penalty fell on deaf ears.
