Livingston distillery to to provide Co-op stores across Scotland with their specially flavoured rums

Award-winning Livingston distiller, Matugga, is toasting a deal to supply Co-op which will see two of its scratch-distilled spirits available at more than 50 stores in Scotland.

Jacine and Paul Rutasikwa will see their Liv Black Spiced Rum – using Scottish heather – and, its Honey and Lavender Rum Liqueur – made with Scottish honey and locally foraged lavender - available at Co-op stores in time for Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight.

Jacine Rutasikwa, explained: “We are delighted to be working with Co-op. This is a first listing with a national retailer for our brand new Liv Rum collection and comes at an important time to support our business - the additional awareness, reach and availability from being stocked in our local Co-op and in communities across the country is a huge boost. Our business draws on my Jamaican roots, the socialising and food and drink element of Paul’s life in Uganda and, we mix that with the botanicals and distilling heritage of Scotland to create our distinctive taste.”

Kevin Buchan, Co-op local sourcing buying manager, Scotland, said: “We are delighted to be working closely with local distillers, Co-op is all about connecting communities, making a difference and creating value locally, and our work to celebrate and support local suppliers and to promote great Scottish food and drink is a cornerstone of this approach.”
