Livingston defender Alan Lithgow back training after 12 months out injured

Livingston defender Alan Lithgow is back in training after nearly a year out injured.

The 32-year-old was a key member of the Lions as they rose from League One to the Premiership but the last of his 143 appearances came in December 2019.

The centre-back underwent a hip operation but interim boss David Martindale says last season’s skipper could be ‘in a good place’ within six weeks as he hopes to return to first team action.

Martindale said: “Alan’s back in doing some light training with Andy the physio. He’s had a couple of wee minor setbacks but they’re ones that had been anticipated given the injury.

“It’s a massive boost for Alan because it’s really been a year since he was genuinely fit and injury free.

“He played with the injury for about a month. Both he and surgeons weren’t quite sure of the best option and if they wanted to go down the operation route but that’s what they went with in the end.

“I think Alan could be in a good place in about 6 weeks and hopefully it’s just like bringing a new player back for us.”
