Livingston confirm signing of new international defender

Livingston have signed Dominican Republic centre-back Luiyi de Lucas on an 18-month deal.

The 28-year-old impressed as a trialist during the Lions' recent winter training camp in Turkey having failed to win a deal last summer.

de Lucas spent last season in the Finnish top flight, starring for FC Haka as they finished in fourth place. The 6'4'' defender provides competition within the squad and cover should the Lions choose to cash in on Jack Fitzwater with the 25-year-old set to leave the club as a free agent in the summer.

The new arrival's deal includes a club option for the 2024/25 season and he could go into the squad for Wednesday's Premiership home clash with Dundee United.

Livi boss David Martindale commented: “I’m delighted to bring Luiyi into the building. It’s no secret that we’re probably going to lose at least one central defender at the club in the summer so I felt it was important to get one in which allows the player time to adapt to the league and the club.

"Luiyi was in training with me last season and done okay but I felt he needed more competitive football at a good level. He went out and got that with FC Haka in Finland.

“He came back in on trial in November after a successful season and I could already see the improvement in his game so I’m really happy to get him over the line and he’s a player that I am sure will prove his worth to the squad in the coming months.”
