Livingston confirm signing of former Scotland midfielder Andrew Shinnie on two-year deal

Livingston have completed the signing of former Scotland international Andrew Shinnie on a two-year deal with the 32-year-old in line to make his debut in tomorrow's League Cup clash with Raith Rovers.

The arrival of Shinnie, who spent last season with English League One side Charlton Athletic, has been described as a 'coup' by manager David Martindale.

The attacking midfielder spent a season on loan at Hibs in 2016/17 where he was team-mates with Livi assistant Marvin Bartley with the Lions' no.2 playing a pivotal role in recruiting the former Inverness man to the Tony Macaroni Arena.

Shinnie earned his sole Scotland cap in 2012 during a huge successful two-year stint at Inverness before earning a move to Birmingham City.

He spent four seasons at St Andrew's, which included loan spells at Rotherham United, Hibs and Luton Town. He won promotion from League Two in 2017/18 with the latter before signing permanently and completing a double promotion the following year.

He featured 29 times for Charlton last season, narrowly missing out on a place in the League One play-offs but has now opted for a return back to Scottish football.

Speaking to the club's official website, manager David Martindale commented: "I'm over the moon to bring someone of Andrew’s quality to the club.

"I honestly think it’s a real coup for the club and testament to Livingston FC as a whole that Andrew decided to sign here for the next two seasons.

“I see Andrew operating anywhere along the front four. He is technically gifted, looks after the ball well and understands the game. He brings a wealth of experience to the squad and I'm sure will prove an invaluable asset going forward, both on and off the park.

“You simply don’t play the number of games at the level Andrew has without being a very good footballer."

He added: "Andrew showed a desire to come to the club from our first phone call and the board has backed both Marvin and I's judgement.

"Marvin played with him at Hibs and has played a big part in persuading Andrew to sign with Livingston.

“I am excited to see Andrew in a Livingston shirt and know he will prove to be a great signing.”
