Livingston boss wary of wounded Saints ahead of Perth trip

Livingston boss Gary Holt as predicted a St Johnstone backlash ahead of this afternoon's meeting between the side.

The Saints go into the game wounded from losing seven goals at Celtic in the opening game of the season and the Holt believes that makes his task all the more difficult.

He said: "We are facing a wounded animal after Saints suffered a lot of negative press on the back of losing heavily at Celtic. They will be looking to make amends but most teams have been turned over at Celtic Park and no doubt they will be relishing the chance to get it out of their system.

“Tommy Wright is long in the tooth, he’s lost heavily to Celtic before and knows that can happen. But his experience is massive and the last time they took a hammering to Celtic it triggered a winning run for them and they’ll look for that again.”

The Lions picked up just one away win in the league last term and he's hoping they can turn positive performances into points on the road - starting with a good result at McDiarmid Park.

He commented: "We have to be up for the challenge and be ready and the players have to go toe-to-toe with their opposite number and win their battle.

“Last season there really wasn’t that many performances where I think we let ourselves down. We didn’t get the results maybe that we deserved away from home because performances were generally very good.

“The challenge this season is to turn those performances into wins and that is what we’ll be looking to do on Saturday.”
