Livingston boss hopeful new striker Jay Emmanuel-Thomas can feature in Betfred Cup clash with Alloa Athletic

Livingston boss Gary Holt says new striker Jay Emmanuel-Thomas could make his first appearance for the Lions on Saturday but insists they won't be rushed if he's not ready.

The former Bristol City and Queens Park Rangers striker signed for Holt's men last week and wasn't fit to feature in either of the club's two games since - a 2-1 league win over Dundee United and their 5-1 Betfred Cup win against Edinburgh City on Tuesday night.

Given the fact the Englishman hasn't played competitive football for over a year, it's perhaps no surprise he's taking time to get up to speed and the boss knows they may have to remain patient.

He said: "Jay is joining in with training to a good level now and has done more conditioning work so hopefully come Saturday he’ll be at a level where he can manage the load.

"If not, we will look forward to the next week. It’s been a little bit of kid gloves with him. It will be work in progress because he hasn’t played a game for us yet.

"He has been to the games, which is a positive, and has seen the areas where we try to play and hopefully he’ll be a good addition."
