Livingston boss David Martindale shortlisted for Scottish Football Writers' Manager of the Year award

Livingston boss David Martindale is on the four-man shortlist for the Scottish Football Writers' Manager of the Year award.

Martindale, who took over from Gary Holt in October with the club mired in a relegation battle, began his managerial career with a 14-game unbeaten run that also included reaching the League Cup final for just the second time in the club's history.

The Lions suffered defeat on that occasion, going down 1-0 to St Johnstone at Hampden, but the club's former assistant manager was able to guide Livi into a top six berth.

St Johnstone's Callum Davidson, Steven Gerrard of Rangers and Scotland boss Steve Clarke are the other three on the shortlist.

Davidson has steered the Perth side to a top half finish and they could be on course for a cup double as they have reached the Scottish Cup semis while having already picked up the Betfred Cup earlier in the season. Gerrard's Rangers were the runaway Premiership winners and are two games away from an unbeaten season while Clarke helped Scotland qualify for a major tournament for the first time since 1998 when they reached Euro 2020.

The winner of the award, sponsored by William Hill, will be announced before the end of the season.
