Livingston boss David Martindale jokes expletive laden rant leak was 'calm part' of half-time talk

Livingston boss David Martindale has joked that leaked audio footage of his furious half-time rant from Saturday's Scottish Cup tie with Stenhousemuir was the 'calm part' of his half-time team talks.

Martindale ripped into his side at the break as they trailed 1-0 to the League Two side thanks to a Nicky Jamieson header.

And part of his expletive-ridden audio has leaked on social media, causing plenty of reaction amongst fans across the country of one of the game's most colourful characters.

The hairdryer treatment clearly worked, though, as a Scott Pittman leveller was followed by a brace from Steven Bradley to seal a 3-1 win and avoid a Scottish Cup giantkilling.

Speaking to the Courier about the audio, Martindale joked: "That was actually the calm part of half-time. We were far too passive and I had a nip at a few of the boys - Steven Bradley being one - and it's worked because we came out much better in the second-half.

"I don't really go into talks at half-time or after the game with a preset idea. I just go with my emotions and my gut. Sometimes there will be players who need a boot up the a***, sometimes they need a tactical chat, sometimes they need encouragement or a cuddle.

"This was one of those times where I really felt I needed to give two or three of them a boot up the a*** and to be honest it worked."
