Livingston boss David Martindale delighted to welcome keeper back and awaits return of key players

David Martindale admitted he was delighted to see Shamal George back in goal for the Lions after the 24-year-old missed four games with a thigh injury.

And he insists the Lions will be more potent offensively once they get both Joel Nouble and Kurtis Guthrie back from injury.

George, who was the club’s second highest transfer when signed from Colchester United in the summer, picked up the injury in October but played through the pain barrier before missing the final game before the winter break and hadn’t featured again until their clash with Motherwell on Monday.

Nouble, meanwhile, has been suffering from knee inflammation which first flared up during their winter camp in Turkey last month with Guthrie having been out since sustaining an ankle injury at Ibrox nearly three months ago.

Martindale said: “It was nice to see Shamal back. Albeit in the first 10 minutes he must have had to kick about 25 balls. I had to shout at the defence and remind them he’d been out with a thigh strain.

“It was good that he came through it because he’s a big player for us and I’m sure when we get all our big players back then we’ll be in a better position.

"In offensive areas, I'm missing two key players at this point in time with Joel Nouble and Kurtis Guthrie so Steven Bradley coming in definitely helps us with that but I'm looking forward to getting both of them back as soon as possible.

"I think we'll be more of a threat in the attacking third when we get both of them back."
