Livingston boss challenges players to back up Celtic performance with three points against St Johnstone

Livingston boss Gary Holt has called on his players to back up their impressive performance at Celtic with a victory at home to St Johnstone on Saturday.

The Lions earned plenty of plaudits for their display at Celtic Park but ultimately came away empty-handed in a 3-2 loss that leaves them sitting bottom of the table.

Speaking to the Courier, the former Scotland midfielder said that with just one win in their first eight matches, this weekend is the sort of game where they need to pick up three points.

He commented: “I’m delighted for the boys in how they’re performing and they had Celtic rattled at the weekend but we need to start winning games of football.

“For all the plaudits and positives you can take from that performance, at the end of the day we lost the game and we’re sitting bottom of the table.

“We have to back that up and take it into the St Johnstone game. You can’t have myself and the staff pointing fingers and saying ‘you did it last week and now you can’t do it against St Johnstone’.

“This is our bread and butter and the games you need to be looking to win.”

He added: “We know how tough it’s going to be because they’ve played some good football and they’ll be like us sitting wondering how they don’t have more points on the board.”
