Livingston and Rangers given unofficial attendance boost as cheeky fans go undercover

Even with games behind closed doors Scottish football fans have been finding innovative ways to catch their teams in action.

With supporters not allowed into stadiums, Premiership clubs have been given permission to stream matches to their season ticket holders or sell them on a pay-per-view basis.

For many though the television experience clearly cannot compare to the real thing.

Pre-season gave us the sight of Hamilton Accies fans standing on upturned trolleys in a nearby Sainsbury's to catch their team in a friendly.

And things were literally taken to new heights when two Aberdeen supporters hired a cherry picker to catch their heroes against Rangers on the opening day of the season.

With coronavirus restrictions and social distancing still in place though, clubs and the authorities are keen to prevent fans from gathering to watch the matches.

That tension was on full display as Livingston welcomed Rangers to the Tony Macaroni Arena.

Police had established a cordon around the stadium to ensure no enterprising fans could get themselves a sneaky glimpse of the match.

The endeavour had something of a herding cats feeling to it though, with a group of young fans gathering just beyond the police tape.

It's fair to say they weren't exactly like guerilla soldiers, as the group could be heard shouting and singing as the game kicked-off.

Authorities hope fans will be allowed to return by October, but we could see even more enterprising solutions before then.
