Livingston and Aberdeen suffer late call off as pitch fails last minute inspection

Livingston's Premiership clash with Aberdeen has been called off at the last minute amid heavy rainfall.

Referee Steven McLean decided the match could not go ahead after prolonged talks with managers David Martindale and Derek McInnes.

The plastic pitch at the Tony Macaroni sustained a Wednesday night deluge and was deemed unplayable as large puddles accumulated on the surfaces.

It had previously been affected by snow and ice over the past week.

Players were left waiting having already gone through their warmups before a decision was finally taken.

McLean then engaged with the SPFL delegate pitchside and it was announced the fixture had been postponed.

The decision comes as a bitter blow to both clubs in their bid to avoid a fixture pile-up.

Livingston and Aberdeen have played two games fewer than a number of clubs, with the Dons already having had matches rearranged due to Covid-related decision.

Martindale's team next host Celtic at home on Saturday while Aberdeen face a trip to the Highlands and an encounter with Ross County.
