'Living in the matrix' - Chelsea fans in shock as Thomas Tuchel makes surprise decision

Chelsea are preparing for their second match under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel and a surprising call has been made by the German.

The former Paris Saint-Germain boss saw his first match in charge of the Blues in midweek end in a goalless draw against Wolves and will be seeking improvements with the welcome of Burnley.

Tuchel made four changes to the side he named in midweek, with Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Olivier Giroud dropping out of the team.

Mason Mount, Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham came in, changes that didn't raise eyebrows, but the inclusion of Marcos Alonso certainly caused a stir.

The Spaniard had not featured for Chelsea since September 26 and was a forgotten man in the squad but seems to have been given an opportunity to spark a revival.

The 30-year-old was somewhat of a regular in Frank Lampard's side last season, making 18 Premier League appearances, but those opportunities disappeared following the signing of Ben Chilwell.

Many Chelsea fans perhaps didn't expect to see Alonso lining-up for their side ever again, despite the fact he still has two-and-a-half-years remaining on the five-year contract he signed in 2018.

It's fair to say that many weren't too impressed with the choice, expressing their frustration and also questioning Ziyech's complete omission from the squad.

However, others pointed out that Tuchel seems to be looking to utilise wing-backs in his formation and stated Alonso is the natural choice.
