John Kerry has arrived in Havana for the flag-raising ceremony at the US embassy, in the first visit to the island by a US secretary of state in more than 70 years.
Diplomatic relations between the US and Cuba have been officially restored, with Cuba’s foreign minister set to take the hugely symbolic step of raising his country’s flag at a newly designated embassy in Washington later on Monday. The embassy building was closed in 1961 after diplomatic relations were broken in 1961.
