'Living his dream': Bangalore remote worker earns Rs 4.5 lakh post-tax + Rs 1 lakh from freelance, hits gym off-peak and travels freely on US job

More and more corporate professionals are now landing high-paying remote roles with US-based companies and building flexible lifestyles. This is a shift in India's tech workforce that is very different from the regular 9-5 office routine.

One such example from Bengaluru has been doing the rounds on X, formerly known as Twitter. A man took to his X handle and revealed that one of his friends reportedly earns around Rs 4.5 lakh per month post-tax from a US-based remote job, adds another Rs 1 lakh monthly through freelance work, works limited hours, and still manages a highly flexible, travel-heavy lifestyle.

The post has struck a chord among social media users and many people commented the man is living his dream life. "Empty gym and travel freedom. Man figured out the cheat code while the rest of us are stuck in traffic," a user commented. "He is living his dream job," another commented.

US Remote Job Driving High Take-Home Income

The primary income of the employee comes from a US-based remote role, where global pay scales make a major difference compared to Indian salaries. After taxes, the monthly in-hand is around ₹4.5 lakh, placing it firmly in a high-income bracket.

What stands out most is the working pattern—reportedly 6–7 hours of focused work daily, with no rigid office commute or location restriction.

Structured Work, Not Endless Hours

Unlike traditional corporate setups that stretch the day, this kind of remote role is more output-driven. Once work is done, the rest of the day is largely free, as long as deliverables are met. A typical flow includes:

Working during overlapping US team hours

Attending structured meetings

Completing focused task blocks

Gym When It’s Empty, Not Crowded

Another lifestyle shift comes in daily routine choices. Instead of peak-hour chaos, gym sessions happen during off-peak timings—late mornings or afternoons. That means:

Less waiting for equipment

More focused workouts

Faster, more efficient sessions

Travel-Friendly, Location-Independent Setup

Since the job is fully remote, location is not fixed.

This enables:

Frequent travel across India and abroad

Longer stays in different cities

Working from wherever internet is stable

It’s not full-time digital nomad life, but a flexible hybrid version that’s becoming more common among remote tech workers.

Extra ₹1 Lakh From Freelance Work

On top of the main salary, there’s an additional ₹1 lakh per month from freelance projects. The key is balance—taking enough work to boost income without disrupting the main job. This usually comes from:

Short consulting assignments

Side projects in the same skill area

Independent contract work

Why This Kind of Lifestyle Is Trending

This setup reflects a larger shift in the job market:

Global remote hiring is expanding

Skilled professionals are getting international pay scales

Work is becoming more flexible and output-based

Side income streams are easier to build than before

While it looks effortless from the outside, this lifestyle still depends on:

Strong, in-demand technical skills

Clear communication with global teams

Discipline in managing time and deliverables

Consistent performance to retain remote roles
