Livid linesman does 'The Broony' in retaliation to cheeky fans at Ayrshire junior football clash

Here's the hilarious moment a livid linesman decided he couldn't stomach any more stick from cheeky football fans.

The animated assistant ref was snapped biting back during a junior football clash between Irvine Victoria and Maybole in Ayrshire on Saturday.

He gave as good as he got after being jeered over a moment of indecision in awarding a throw-in - even mimicking Celtic captain Scott Brown's infamous 'Broony' celebration against Rangers in 2011.

One fan said: "At this level, each club puts up a guy from their own committee to run the line and assist the referee.

"They're mainly there to let the ref know if the ball has gone out of play or not.

"During the game, the linesman in a Maybole trackie top put his flag up then straight back down again when one of the Maybole players tried to play on.

"The ref stopped play and had a word with him which sparked a bit of mock outrage from the Irvine Vics fans.

"They were giving the lino pelters and he decided to answer them back.

"It was harmless stuff but hilarious at the same time."

Vics didn't let the 'controversy' affect them as they went on to record a 5-3 win that lifted them to joint top in the Ayrshire District League.
