Livid Arsenal fans tell board to axe Mikel Arteta for ex-Swansea City, Liverpool and current Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers

Arsenal fans have urged their board to axe beleaguered boss Mikel Arteta and replace him with former Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers.

The Gunners slipped to yet another defeat on Saturday night, going down 2-1 to Everton at Goodison Park to leave them 15th in the Premier League, their worst start to a campaign since the 1970s.

Arteta, who only won the FA Cup six months prior with the north London side, recording wins over Manchester City and Liverpool along the way, has overseen a drastic decline of the club, with players underperforming and ill-discipline ravaging the squad.

Defeats this season to Aston Villa, Wolves, Burnley and now the Toffees have heaped pressure on the Spaniard's shoulders, and supporters have called for current Leicester City boss Rodgers to replace him in the Emirates dugout.

Rodgers has support within the Gunners boardroom, having been on the shortlist to replace Arsene Wenger when he left the club in the summer of 2018.

And fans think the Northern Irishman would be a popular choice.

Another added: "Any top top manager would die for The Arsenal job. Rafa, Rodgers or Allegri would be perfect at the moment. Experienced and would get instant respect from this horrible prima donna dressing room.

A second added: "How long before Rodgers leaves Leicester for Arsenal then?"

talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent backed Rodgers to take over from Arteta should the Gunners decide to make a change in direction.

He said this week: "Off the top of my head I don't think he'd leave where he's at now but I love Brendan Rodgers, I absolutely love him. I think as a coach, he always seems to improve squads.

"You look at what he's done to this Leicester team, they're playing fantastic football.

"I think he'd be a very good addition, whether he'd Leicester now I don't think so. But he's one I'd love to have in the building.

"As I said I like Arteta and I think he's a very good manager but if the players have switched off and they're no longer listening to his ideas and don't believe in what he's saying, then you can't get rid of the players, so something's got to change."

Rodgers is currently second favourite to take over from Arteta, behind Italian Massimiliano Allegri.
