'Livid' Arsenal fan Laura Woods sends classy message to Nottingham Forest

Radio presenter Laura Woods has welcomed Nottingham Forest’s Premier League survival – even it came at the expense of her beloved Arsenal’s title hopes.

Forest defeated the Gunners at the City Ground on Saturday evening, securing a 1-0 victory that guaranteed their top flight safety and gave Manchester City a third successive championship.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Woods described how she didn’t watch the game, and as ‘livid’ as she was at the result, she congratulated a Forest fan who called in to discuss the club’s achievement.

She said: “I have got to be honest, I was in Dublin and in rehearsals for the boxing, and I am so glad I didn’t get to watch the game. The floor manager came up to me and he went 1-0 on his hands and I thought ‘Oh, we are winning’. No. I was absolutely livid with them.

“But you guys deserve it. I am glad you are staying up. I didn’t want Forest to go down and I think the job your manager has done with how many new players got thrown in. Some of them have worked, some of them haven’t.”

Forest have one game remaining this term, at Crystal Palace on Sunday (4.30pm kick-off), and can already start planning for next season's league campaign.

Woods also praised the fact Forest kept faith with Steve Cooper even when results were going against his side. The Forest boss has thanked the club and the fans for sticking with him.

“I, and my family, will be in debt to these supporters forever,” Cooper said. “What they have given me this year, in an era of always wanting change and with no patience – not just in football – our supporters have been the complete opposite. They have actually been the best with me in the most difficult times. That takes some doing.”
