Livi gaffer believes St Mirren side will 'come out fighting'

Livingston boss Gary Holt wants his team ready to go toe to toe against a St Mirren side he believes will be 'fighting for their lives'.

The Lions will have home advantage when they take on Saints – who are currently second from bottom of the Premiership – on Saturday.

Speaking to the Courier, the Lions’ gaffer said: “It’s going to be difficult because they’re obviously fighting for their lives. We’ve got that bit of freedom but you’ve got to battle. They’re not just going to turn up here and lie down.

“We’ll go toe to toe with them and hopefully our talent will outweigh theirs. Everyone knows an animal backed into a corner will come out fighting. It’s not going to be easy.”

Looking ahead to the rest of the season as a side in no danger of relegation, Holt said: “The plan is to try and get as many points as we can.

“We’ve got a good bunch of boys here who don’t know the meaning of downing tools and resting on their laurels.

“They know it’s cut throat, and they know they’ve got the freedom to go and express themselves – even more so without the pressure of having to pick up points.”

Livi are currently on 42 points and have five games left to play. Holt said: “Not a person outwith this building thought we would stay in the league, or even do as well as we have so far. Now can we set ourselves another personal target?

“We want to try and get to 50 points – can we go these five games unbeaten, can we buy into what we’ve achieved so
far?

“Our bunch take every game as if it’s their last. Nobody’s going to take points off us.

“We don’t ever get outfought or outbattled. We’ve got lots of threats in the final third.

“We’ve got lots of good movement, goals throughout the team. We’ve got players who are willing to get hurt. It’s a hard thing to score a goal, to get in the way of a cross.

“You very rarely get a cross where you find yourself unopposed, and we’ve got guys who are willing to put their bodies on the line.”
