Bindoon bushfire emergency warning downgraded to watch and act

A bushfire that was threatening lives and homes in Bindoon in the Shire of Chittering has been downgraded from emergency level to watch and act.

The emergency warning covered an area bounded by Hideaway Drive to the east, Forrest Hills Parade to the south, Teatree Road to the west and Mooliabeenee Road to the north.

An evacuation centre was set up at the Bindoon Town Hall, but authorities say the blaze is now contained and stationary.

About 120 firefighters battled the blaze, which started near Gray Road in Bindoon.

A number of roads in the area remain closed.

Chopper vision revealed the intensity of flames from the fire burning near  properties.  (ABC News)
