Liverpool youngsters find ingenious coronavirus handshake alternative

Liverpool's UEFA Youth League campaign came to an end this afternoon with a 4-1 away defeat to Benfica.

The young Reds bowed out the competition after some memorable games in the group stages, most notably a 7-0 home win over Napoli and a dramatic fightback to win from two goals down in the final match away to Salzburg.

The likes of Harvey Elliott , Ki-Jana Hoever and Curtis Jones will all surely have benefited from the experience and the mini-Reds showed their ingenious side again before kick off in Lisbon.

With the threat of coronavirus affecting many aspects of life at the moment, medical experts are warning that handshakes can pass the virus, with the SFA and SPFL already having written to clubs informing them players and club officials are banned from shaking hands with opponents before and after fixtures with immediate effect.

Liverpool and Benfica managed to get round the potential threat of passing germs on by using a different form of greeting as they went about the usual pre-match formalities - Sport Bible report they went along the traditional line of players by simply touching elbows! ( watch here )

Benfica won the match 4-1 to progress to the quarter finals, with Sepp Van den Berg and Leighton Clarkson being sent off for Liverpool in the second half.
