Liverpool youngster suffers injury setback after ligament problem

Liverpool youngster Adam Lewis faces an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee ligament injury.

Lewis sustained the problem when he was kicked in the knee while featuring for the under-23s in their 2-2 draw at Arsenal last month.

The 19-year-old was forced off during the second half and has subsequently had his leg in a brace, with scans revealing a ligament issue.

And the ECHO understands the left-back is expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks although no timescale has been set on his return.

Nevertheless, that there is no serious damage is encouraging with Lewis unlikely to face a significant absence and almost certain to be back before Christmas.

Lewis has been promoted to the U23s on a permanent basis this season and has had spells training at Melwood.

He appeared for the Liverpool first team during pre-season and was part of the tour to the United States. The teenager also featured in the EFL Trophy defeat at Oldham Athletic in August.
