Liverpool youngster set for senior debut three months after bike accident

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is set to make his senior debut at Milton Keynes Dons on Wednesday night.

The 20-year-old Irishman will deputise for Spanish stopper Adrian according to Goal.com , with his professional bow coming less than three months after he broke his wrist in a cycling accident on holiday.

The injury ensured that Kelleher couldn't go on Liverpool's pre-season tour of the United States, and led to the acquisition of veteran goalkeeper Andy Lonergan on a short-term deal.

Simon Mignolet was then sold to Club Brugge after the tour, with Spanish stopper Adrian replacing him in the Reds ranks as No.2 goalkeeper, and then promoted to No.1 following Alisson Becker's calf injury.

Lonergan was Liverpool's substitute goalkeeper for the European Super Cup win over Chelsea and the Premier League victory at Southampton , but Kelleher has been on the bench for the last five games following his recovery.

The Cork-born Republic of Ireland under-21 international's inclusion is set to be one of a raft of changes made by Jurgen Klopp for the game against the side currently 15th in League One.

Rhian Brewster is expected to make his senior debut in attack having been an unused substitute at Chelsea on Sunday, while several members of the squad are likely to come into the side from the start.

Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri will all be eyeing starts in Buckinghamshire, while Naby Keita is also pushing for an appearance after recovering from injury.

Several of Klopp's first-team stars are set to get the night off, with some of them set to be in Milan for the FIFA Best Awards on Monday night.

Virgil van Dijk is the favourite to win the Men's Player of the Year Award, while the Dutchman is one of seven Reds on the shortlist for a spot in the Team of the Year.
