Liverpool youngster Ryan Kent on how Rangers and Steven Gerrard have helped him fall in love again

Liverpool winger Ryan Kent says his season-long stay at Rangers has rekindled his love for football as he prepares to contest a two-match suspension.

The 22-year-old has kick-started his career north of the border after two difficult loan spells with Freiburg and Bristol City last term.

Kent has proved a big hit at Ibrox under the guidance of Steven Gerrard – scoring six goals and providing nine assists.

The mistake Jurgen Klopp knows Liverpool won't make again in Premier League title race with Man City

Gerrard is keen to secure his services on a permanent basis but Liverpool's £12million price tag means Kent's future is likely to be elsewhere.

Kent told Rangers TV: “I've thoroughly enjoyed the journey I've been on, there's been a lot of enjoyable times.

“I've re-found my love for the game, I probably missed that last year not playing as much. With the fans and everybody associated with Rangers Football Club, I've been really welcomed here and I've thoroughly enjoyed it.

“I feel like I really fit into this team. I buy into the philosophies and the style of play Steven Gerrard is putting into the team.

Jurgen Klopp on Mohamed Salah adapting and dealing with a different season

“Sometimes noise outside of the pitch has affected the way I've played. Playing under Steven gives me more confidence to perform the way I want to perform.

“He gives me the belief that I can go and achieve things out on the pitch and be fearless.”

Kent scored a stunning solo goal in Sunday's Old Firm defeat but is facing a retrospective ban after shoving Celtic skipper Scott Brown during a flare-up late on.

With Rangers deciding to contest the two-match suspension, Kent will discover his fate at a tribunal on Thursday.
