Liverpool youngster drops hint after surprise pre-season squad omission

Liverpool academy prospect James Balagizi has offered a hint as to the reason behind his surprise omission from Jurgen Klopp's pre-season squad.

The midfielder was left out of the 34-man travelling party announced on Friday ahead of preparations for the new season getting under way in Austria next week.

That came as something of a surprise given Balagizi's status as one of the Reds' most promising young players and the involvement of a number of other academy hopefuls.

However, the 17-year-old has dropped a clue as to why he was left out by Klopp in a post on social media.

Balagizi shared a brief video that appeared to show him wearing a cast on his arm with the caption: "What’s meant for you won’t miss you. Back ASAP."

It seems injury has cruelly denied the teenager a chance to impress Klopp during the Reds' training camp in Tyrol, near Salzburg.

There will be plenty of other academy prospects hoping to make a mark this summer, though.

Jake Cain, Leighton Clarkson, Marcelo Pitaluga, Harvey Davies, Billy Koumetio, Owen Beck, Kaide Gordon, Mateusz Musialowski, Tyler Morton and Conor Bradley have all been included in the squad that will travel out on Monday.

They will hope to make an impact in the boss in training, while Liverpool are also expected to arrange friendly fixtures during their stay in Austria.
