Liverpool youngster confirms Manchester United transfer after rejecting contract

Liverpool starlet Ethan Ennis has signed for Manchester United after rejecting a new contract with the Merseyside club.

Liverpool were keen to keep hold of the talented teenage midfielder and offered him a scholarship contract earlier this summer, but it was rejected.

Ennis was then free to join whichever club he wished and also received interest from United's Premier League rivals Chelsea, according to the Liverpool Echo.

However, United have won the race to sign the 16-year-old, who confirmed the transfer by posting photographs of himself at Old Trafford on Instagram.

The caption read: "I am delighted to announce that I have signed for Manchester United. Grateful for this opportunity, can't wait to get started."

Although Ennis was out of contract, Liverpool are still owed a development fee for the player, which could be decided by a tribunal if the two clubs fail to reach an agreement.

Ennis broke into the Liverpool Under-18s side last season and scored five goals in eight games, including a hat-trick in an FA Youth Cup tie.

United have made a habit of signing some of the most promising young players in the country and beyond in recent years, with Ennis joining the likes of Joe Hugill, Charlie McNeil, Willy Kambwala, Alejandro Garnacho, Marc Jurado and Isak Hansen-Aaroen who have all arrived in Manchester over the last 12 months.
