Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn backed to overcome 'difficult time' after senior snub

Wales Under-21 manager Paul Bodin is hoping Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn will be able to put what has been a difficult period behind him and kick on this season.

The forward, who has received 10 caps so far, has missed out on a senior call up from Ryan Giggs who announced his Welsh squad on Tuesday.

Woodburn has instead been called up to the U21 side for their upcoming Euro 2021 qualifier against Bosnia & Herzegovina.

The 20-year-old, who was loaned out to Oxford United last term, missed most of last season through injury.

And Bodin, whose side will be in action on September 4, noted the difficult period the Reds starlet has endured.

The youth coach said: "Ben's had a difficult time.

"I always tell the players that professional life is a rollercoaster.

"You have your high and your lows and you've got to stay pretty balanced in between.

"Hopefully Ben will come back in and he'll add to our squad for sure.

"He had a tough time, albeit it got better last year when he went on loan to Oxford and played a lot of games there and I watched him a few times.

"He's started to believe in himself again and hopefully after a good pre-season for Liverpool he'll be raring to go for us."
