Liverpool XI vs Watford: Confirmed team news, starting lineup and latest injuries for Premier League today

Andy Robertson has been rested for Liverpool's Premier League clash with Watford this afternoon.

Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah all start for the Reds with Xherdan Shaqiri also earning a place in the first-team at Anfield.

James Milner slots in at left-back with Dejan Lovren ruled out and facing a spell on the sidelines.

The Croatian was forced off before half-time of the Reds' win at Bournemouth last Saturday due to muscle tightness, but made a surprisingly speedy return to feature in the starting XI at RB Salzburg in midweek.

However, he was unable to make it beyond the hour mark in Austria due to a recurrence and could now be out for some time.

“He is out, muscle this time - more serious than last time,” Klopp explained as he previewed the meeting with the Hornets. "We don’t have a timeframe.”

With Joel Matip out until the New Year, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are now Liverpool's only fit senior centre-halves.

And Klopp has admitted that he may need to get creative to find a solution, particularly with Fabinho still on his way back from an ankle problem.

“It’s a concern, how you can imagine,” the German continued.

“It’s not the first time we are in a situation like this; last year, one game Fabinho played at centre-half, unfortunately he is out as well. It’s not too cool.

“In the moment we have two – we should take care of them, pack them in cotton wool and ask them what they want to do in training, ‘Are you ready or not?’ Apart from that, we have to be creative; we have the kids, of course, with Ki-Jana [Hoever] and Sepp [van den Berg].

“We have defensive-minded midfielders, there are different systems where you can use different kind of defenders as well. That’s how it is.

“In the moment, I have a lot of ideas but I hope for most of them I never have to use them, to be honest.”
