Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Ryan Gravenberch, Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai have all been rested after Saturday’s 2-1 Merseyside derby win over Everton. None have made the matchday squad.

New £125million signing Isak starts up front in place of Hugo Ekitike, with Slot eager to get minutes into his legs.

Young centre-half Giovanni Leoni, who was signed for £26m from Parma this summer, will make his Liverpool debut.

Jeremie Frimpong will be looking to make an impression at right-back as he returns from injury.

There is also a change in goal as Giorgi Mamardashvili starts.

After scoring the winner against last month, 17-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha is also be pushing for a start.

With Liverpool top of the Premier League, Slot has seen this as a perfect opportunity to give fringe squad players Curtis Jones, Joe Gomez and Federico Chiesa a run out. All three have seen limited action so far this season. Wataru Endo gets a start in midfield, too.

Slot has never been afraid to give young players a chance, and tonight is no different. Trey Nyoni starts and Jayden Danns, who featured in pre-season, makes the bench alongside several of his academy team-mates.

Liverpool XI: Mamardashvili; Robertson, Gomez, Leoni, Frimpong; Jones, Endo, Nyoni; Chiesa, Isak, Ngumoha

Subs: Woodman, Kerkez, Bradley, Ekitike, Williams, Gordon, Morrison, Pilling, Danns

Time and date: 8pm BST, Tuesday, September 23, 2025
