Liverpool XI vs PSV: Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Champions League today

Decisions: Arne Slot’s tinkering is yet to spark a positive turn in results - (London Standard)

Arne Slot has made two changes to his starting XI as Liverpool welcome PSV to Anfield in an increasingly important Champions League test.

Florian Wirtz remains side-lined after being unable to join his team-mates in opening training on Tuesday afternoon, but perhaps the most surprising tweak to the Reds’ line-up comes between the sticks.

First-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker was recalled for the 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend but was kept out of action for half a dozen games prior to that with a hamstring injury. However, it’s reportedly an illness that keeps the Brazilian from making the matchday squad tonight, with Giorgi Mamardashvili filling in.

At the other end of the pitch, club record signing Alexander Isak must settle for a place among the substitutes tonight after an ineffective hour-long showing against Forest; fellow summer arrival Hugo Ekitike is picked to lead the line instead against a team that has remained unbeaten in all but one of their last eight games versus Slot (drawn three, lost four).

Wirtz’s continued absence means Cody Gakpo keeps his place on the left wing, with Mohammed Salah taking up his usual spot on the right flank despite his dwindling returns - the Egyptian has scored one goal in four Champions League games so far this season, and remains two away from a half-century of strikes in the competition.

At the back, right-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley remain out but it’s Curtis Jones who starts there in their absence, meaning Dominik Szoboszlai is back in his preferred position at the tip of a midfield trio alongside Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister.

On the left side of the backline, meanwhile, Milos Kerkez keeps his place ahead of Andy Robertson.

Confirmed Liverpool XI: Mamardashvili; Jones, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Ekitike, Gakpo

Subs: Woodman, Misciur, Gomez, Endo, Isak, Chiesa, Robertson, Nyoni, Ngumoha

Injured: Alisson, Wirtz, Frimpong, Bradley, Leoni

Time and date: 8pm on Wednesday, November 26, 2025

Venue: Anfield
