Liverpool XI vs Brentford: Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Premier League game today

Virgil van Dijk returns as Liverpool host Brentford in the Premier League this afternnon.

The Reds captain missed Thursday's shock defeat by Toulouse in the Europa League through illness, but is back to face the in-form Bees at Anfield - though he is joined by Joel Matip rather than Ibrahima Konate in central defence.

The likes of Alisson Becker, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Trent Alexander-Arnold were all rested in France and return to the starting lineup on Sunday, while Cody Gakpo starts in midfield in a very attacking side.

Alexis Mac Allister is suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season in the dramatic draw away at Luton last weekend, while Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch remain out.

Andrew Robertson, Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago Alcantara are all long-term injuries, meanwhile.

Konate misses out altogether, with fellow defender Joe Gomez also not in a matchday squad which features an incredibly youthful bench.

"It’s super challenging to play Thomas Frank and Brentford for different reasons," Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on Friday.

"I’m not sure they are 100 per cent happy with this season but for sure losing Ivan Toney is brutal.

"They are stable in the table which is probably what Brentford want. Well organised, had a few problems this season to get used to the game without Ivan but when you look at the table they are in the middle with a tendency to go up.

"Sensational set-pieces, really offensive players, really fast, counter-attacking really good. It’s always interesting to play them and difficult as well but it’s Anfield and we should use that."

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas, Endo, Szoboszlai, Gakpo, Salah, Nunez, Jota

Subs: Kelleher, Diaz, Elliott, Chambers, Scanlon, Doak, McConnell, Quansah, Nyoni

Injured: Robertson, Bajcetic, Thiago, Jones, Gravenberch

Suspended: Mac Allister

Time and date: 2pm GMT on Sunday November 12, 2023

Venue: Anfield
